民22:1
Then the Israelites traveled to the plains of Moab and camped along the Jordan across from Jericho.
以色列人起行,在摩押平原、约旦河东,对着耶利哥安营。


民22:2
Now Balak son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites,
以色列人向亚摩利人所行的一切事,西拨的儿子巴勒都看见了。

and Moab was terrified because there were so many people. Indeed, Moab was filled with dread because of the Israelites.
摩押人因以色列民甚多,就大大惧怕,心内忧急,

The Moabites said to the elders of Midian, "This horde is going to lick up everything around us, as an ox licks up the grass of the field." So Balak son of Zippor, who was king of Moab at that time,
对米甸的长老说:“现在这众人要把我们四围所有的一概尽,就如牛舔尽田间的草一般。”那时,西拨的儿子巴勒作摩押王。

sent messengers to summon Balaam son of Beor, who was at Pethor, near the River, in his native land. Balak said: "A people has come out of Egypt; they cover the face of the land and have settled next to me.
他差遣使者往大河边的毗夺去,到比珥的儿子巴兰本乡那里,召巴兰来,说:“有一宗民从埃及出来,遮满地面,与我对居。


民22:6
Now come and put a curse on these people, because they are too powerful for me. Perhaps then I will be able to defeat them and drive them out of the country. For I know that those you bless are blessed, and those you curse are cursed."
这民比我强盛,现在求你来为我咒诅他们,或者我能得胜,攻打他们,赶出此地。因为我知道你为谁祝福,谁就得福;你咒诅谁,谁就受咒诅。”


民22:7
The elders of Moab and Midian left, taking with them the fee for divination. When they came to Balaam, they told him what Balak had said.
摩押的长老和米甸的长老手里拿着卦金到了巴兰那里,将巴勒的话都告诉了他。


民22:8
"Spend the night here," Balaam said to them, "and I will bring you back the answer the LORD gives me." So the Moabite princes stayed with him.
巴兰说:“你们今夜在这里住宿,我必照耶和华所晓谕我的,回报你们。”摩押的使臣就在巴兰那里住下了。

God came to Balaam and asked, "Who are these men with you?"
神临到巴兰那里说:“在你这里的人都是谁?”

Balaam said to God, "Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab, sent me this message:
巴兰回答说:“是摩押王西拨的儿子巴勒,打发人到我这里来,说:

'A people that has come out of Egypt covers the face of the land. Now come and put a curse on them for me. Perhaps then I will be able to fight them and drive them away.'"
'从埃及出来的民遮满地面,你来为我咒诅他们,或者我能与他们争战,把他们赶出去。'”


民22:12
But God said to Balaam, "Do not go with them. You must not put a curse on those people, because they are blessed."
神对巴兰说:“你不可同他们去,也不可咒诅那民,因为那民是蒙福的。”

The next morning Balaam got up and said to Balak's princes, "Go back to your own country, for the LORD has refused to let me go with you."
巴兰早晨起来,对巴勒的使臣说:“你们回本地去吧,因为耶和华不容我和你们同去。”


民22:14
So the Moabite princes returned to Balak and said, "Balaam refused to come with us."
摩押的使臣就起来,回巴勒那里去,说:“巴兰不肯和我们同来。”

Then Balak sent other princes, more numerous and more distinguished than the first.
巴勒又差遣使臣,比先前的又多又尊贵。

They came to Balaam and said: "This is what Balak son of Zippor says: Do not let anything keep you from coming to me,

because I will reward you handsomely and do whatever you say. Come and put a curse on these people for me."

But Balaam answered them, "Even if Balak gave me his palace filled with silver and gold, I could not do anything great or small to go beyond the command of the LORD my God.
巴兰回答巴勒的臣仆说:“巴勒就是将他满屋的金银给我,我行大事小事也不得越过耶和华我 神的命。


民22:19
Now stay here tonight as the others did, and I will find out what else the LORD will tell me."
现在我请你们今夜在这里住宿,等我得知耶和华还要对我说什么。”


民22:20
That night God came to Balaam and said, "Since these men have come to summon you, go with them, but do only what I tell you."
当夜 神临到巴兰那里说:“这些人若来召你,你就起来同他们去,你只要遵行我对你所说的话。”


民22:21
Balaam got up in the morning, saddled his donkey and went with the princes of Moab.
巴兰早晨起来,备上驴,和摩押的使臣一同去了。


民22:22
But God was very angry when he went, and the angel of the LORD stood in the road to oppose him. Balaam was riding on his donkey, and his two servants were with him.
神因他去就发了怒,耶和华的使者站在路上敌挡他。他骑着驴,有两个仆人跟随他。


民22:23
When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD standing in the road with a drawn sword in his hand, she turned off the road into a field. Balaam beat her to get her back on the road.
驴看见耶和华的使者站在路上,手里有拔出来的刀,就从路上跨进田间,巴兰便打驴要叫它回转上路。


民22:24
Then the angel of the LORD stood in a narrow path between two vineyards, with walls on both sides.
耶和华的使者就站在葡萄园的窄路上,这边有墙,那边也有墙。


民22:25
When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD, she pressed close to the wall, crushing Balaam's foot against it. So he beat her again.
驴看见耶和华的使者就贴靠墙,将巴兰的脚挤伤了,巴兰又打驴。


民22:26
Then the angel of the LORD moved on ahead and stood in a narrow place where there was no room to turn, either to the right or to the left.
耶和华的使者又往前去,站在狭窄之处,左右都没有转折的地方。


民22:27
When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD, she lay down under Balaam, and he was angry and beat her with his staff.
驴看见耶和华的使者,就卧在巴兰底下,巴兰发怒用杖打驴。


民22:28
Then the LORD opened the donkey's mouth, and she said to Balaam, "What have I done to you to make you beat me these three times?"
耶和华叫驴开口,对巴兰说:“我向你行了什么,你竟打我这三次呢?”


民22:29
Balaam answered the donkey, "You have made a fool of me! If I had a sword in my hand, I would kill you right now."
巴兰对驴说:“因为你戏弄我,我恨不能手中有刀,把你杀了。”


民22:30
The donkey said to Balaam, "Am I not your own donkey, which you have always ridden, to this day? Have I been in the habit of doing this to you?" "No," he said.
驴对巴兰说:“我不是你从小时直到今日所骑的驴吗?我素常向你这样行过吗?”巴兰说:“没有。”


民22:31
Then the LORD opened Balaam's eyes, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the road with his sword drawn. So he bowed low and fell facedown.
当时,耶和华使巴兰的眼目明亮,他就看见耶和华的使者站在路上,手里有拔出来的刀,巴兰便低头俯伏在地。

The angel of the LORD asked him, "Why have you beaten your donkey these three times? I have come here to oppose you because your path is a reckless one before me.
耶和华的使者对他说:“你为何这三次打你的驴呢?我出来敌挡你,因你所行的在我面前偏僻。


民22:33
The donkey saw me and turned away from me these three times. If she had not turned away, I would certainly have killed you by now, but I would have spared her."
驴看见我就三次从我面前偏过去;驴若没有偏过去,我早把你杀了,留它存活。”


民22:34
Balaam said to the angel of the LORD, "I have sinned. I did not realize you were standing in the road to oppose me. Now if you are displeased, I will go back."
巴兰对耶和华的使者说:“我有罪了,我不知道你站在路上阻挡我。你若不喜欢我去,我就转回。”


民22:35
The angel of the LORD said to Balaam, "Go with the men, but speak only what I tell you." So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.
耶和华的使者对巴兰说:“你同这些人去吧!你只要说我对你说的话。”于是巴兰同着巴勒的使臣去了。


民22:36
When Balak heard that Balaam was coming, he went out to meet him at the Moabite town on the Arnon border, at the edge of his territory.
巴勒听见巴兰来了,就往摩押京城去迎接他,这城是在边界上,在亚嫩河旁。

Balak said to Balaam, "Did I not send you an urgent summons? Why didn't you come to me? Am I really not able to reward you?"
巴勒对巴兰说:“我不是急急地打发人到你那里去召你吗?你为何不到我这里来呢?我岂不能使你得尊荣吗?”


民22:38
"Well, I have come to you now," Balaam replied. "But can I say just anything? I must speak only what God puts in my mouth."
巴兰说:“我已经到你这里来了,现在我岂能擅自说什么呢? 神将什么话传给我,我就说什么。”

Then Balaam went with Balak to Kiriath Huzoth.
巴兰和巴勒同行,来到基列胡琐。

Balak sacrificed cattle and sheep, and gave some to Balaam and the princes who were with him.
巴勒宰了(原文作“献”)牛羊,送给巴兰和陪伴的使臣。

The next morning Balak took Balaam up to Bamoth Baal, and from there he saw part of the people.
到了早晨,巴勒领巴兰到巴力的高处,巴兰从那里观看以色列营的边界。
